Despite stiff resistance from NATO forces, the Soviet armoured divisions have pushed deeper into West Germany, though not without horrendous losses, as NATO soldiers make them pay for every inch of German soil with blood.
As strong point after strong point is breeched, only the besieged defenders of the city of Frankfurt are holding out. But the situation is turning grim. Assaulted from all sides by the Red tide, and with supplies running critically low, it is only a matter of time before the city falls.
With little time and their options running out fast, elements of the 5th US Corp and 3rd German Corp mount a desperate push through the advancing soviet hordes to reach the defenders…with the vain hope of splitting the Red advance into half.
MISSION 3: A Shot in the Dark
NATO IS ATTACKER
1. As supply lines have been cut in previous battles, specific NATO platoons will run at minimum strength (2 chosen by Soviets)
2. As the soviet forces were not prepared to be attacked, at the start of the game, each soviet unit must roll on its Rally or Remount. If failed, the unit starts soviet turn one pinned down. Tank teams PINNED DOWN this way cannot shoot or move or assault, but may defensive fire and can break away from assaults. They count as live tanks for purposes of unit morale.
All teams pinned down this way automatically unpin on Soviet Turn 2.
Aircraft units must loiter off table in turn one if deployed.
While the strategic value of Frankfurt is debatable, the morale loss for a major European city into soviet hands is undeniable. All mobile armored assets of the 3rd German corps and 5th us corps are to advance and drive a wedge between the encirclement to ensure Frankfurt can be supplied.
